Comfrey Leaf

Comfrey leaf tincture, Symphytum officinale and Symphytum uplandicum. Traditional uses: healing tissue trauma, increasing breastmilk, anemia, bronchitis, abscesses. Note: Recently comfrey has been recommended only for external use because of two problems with WILD comfrey: it contains high levels of alkaloids which could be dangerous if taken internally, and young unflowered leaves could possibly be mistaken for unflowered foxglove plants. To solve both of these problems for those who choose to use it anyway, I use only domestic comfrey so that there is no risk of either misidentification or high alkaloid content. For more information on the uses and properties of this wonderful herb, see this paper done by a student midwife: Comfrey, Symphytum officinale, Boraginaceae family
