Balsam Poplar (Balm of Gilead) essential oil

Several decades ago I lived for six years in a small off-the-grid cabin in the woods of the Adirondack mountains, only 30 minutes drive from the Canadian border. In front of the cabin was a stand of Balsam Poplar trees (also known as Balm of Giliad and Poplar Balsam.) They had pretty shimmering leaves, but what really struck me was when in the spring they produced catkin buds similar to pussy willows - the scent that filled the air from the catkins was strong and more wondrous than any scent I had experienced before or after. Since moving from there, over the years I've looked online for a Balsam Poplar essential oil, but when I would find a company selling it it was ridiculously expensive, far beyond my means.
